كانت و لازالت الصناديق السيادية تمثل قنوات ضخمة للاستثمار في كافة أنحاء العالم، حيث تشير آخر التقديرات أنها تمتلك  4256 مليار $ (أي ما يزيد عن 4,2 تريليون دولار)، وتمثل الصناديق السيادية التي مصدر ممتلكاتها الأساسي البترول والغاز حوالي 60%، والباقي (40%) من مصادر أخرى.

 ويحتل المرتبة الأولى صندوق أبو ظبي الاستثماري السيادي بموجدات تقدر بــ 627 مليار $، وهو ما يعادل 14.7 % من إجمالي موجودات صناديق الثروة السيادية في العالم،

ويليه في المرتبة الثانية الصندوق السيادي للنرويج الذي تبلغ ممتلكاته 556.8 مليار $ (أي ما يقارب 13.1% من إجمالي موجودات صناديق الثروة السيادية في العالم )،

  وفي المرتبة الثالثة الصندوق السيادي السعودي بموجودات تبلغ 415 مليار $ (أي ما يقارب 10.3% من إجمالي موجودات صناديق الثروة السيادية في العالم ).

 ويحتل صندوق ضبط الموارد الجزائري المرتبة 15 من حيث إجمالي موجوداته المقدرة بحوالي 56.7 مليار $  (أي ما يقارب 1.3% من إجمالي موجودات صناديق الثروة السيادية في العالم ).
